Canadian Report on BPA Contamination
- 8-24-2010

NaturalNews.com shares a startling story on BPA contamination in Canada. Canada's official statistical agency states that more than 90 percent of Canadians are contaminated with BPA (bisphenol-A).
A Reuters article titled 'Canada tracks BPA exposure, finds in most people' quoted by NaturalNews.com makes some startling claims about a chemical the FDA still considers safe (or to have safe levels in food). Teenagers and children between 6 and 11 had the highest levels of BPA in the Canadian study. In other words, small bodies held more of the chemical (yes consider this information very related to pets). http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE67F4NW20100816

Just as the Canadian study proves, smaller bodies hold a larger amount of the chemical, pets are certainly at risk from BPA. While there have been no studies done regarding the risks to dogs and cats from BPA, the NaturalNews.com website offers a multitude of articles linking BPA in plastics (as example pet food can linings) to serious illness. http://www.naturalnews.com/BPA.html
Some pet food manufacturers use cans that are BPA free (to my knowledge only small cans of pet food are available with BPA free linings), others do not. Numerous pet food manufacturers are actively seeking BPA free alternatives, until we learn about these alternatives...
An important question to ask your pet food manufacturer..."Do your canned foods have a BPA lining?"
Wishing you and your pet(s) the best, Susan Thixton
