The new pet food on the block, RedMoon Pet Food, offers pet owners a means to customize their dog or cat’s food; sort of.
The press release caught my attention. The headline specifically…”New Company Lets You Design Your Own Natural Pet Food Online and Have it Delivered Right to Your Door.” RedMoon states “Just like people, every dog and cat has unique dietary requirements. Besides the breed, age, gender, size and energy level of your pet, other factors such as allergies play a major role in properly determining which diet to feed our pets. The ability to customize your pet's food also gives you the flexibility to adapt to their ever-changing physical health.” To read the full press release, Click Here
Founder and President of RedMoon Pet Food is Jason Bailey; also affiliated with Horizon Pet Nutrition (Canada) and formerly with Nutro Products (before Mars Petcare purchased them). http://www.linkedin.com/ppl/webprofile?action=vmi&id=38244106&pvs=pp&authToken=qoFR&authType=name&trk=ndir_viewmore&lnk=vw_pprofile
So, is this new pet food actually customizable? Yes, sort of. There are five base formulas (4 dog, 1 cat). From these base formulas the customer chooses activity level or age level (senior, puppy, active, ect.) which are variations of the base formulas. The last choice customers select is supplements. Supplements are added to the base choice food prior to shipping to the customer (and the customer gets to name their own food too). Supplement options are antioxidants, probiotics, coat conditioners, and more. Each supplement (six options for dog food, six options for cat food) adds $1.99 to the cost of a 2.5 trial size bag of food; $3.99 for a 7 lb bag, and $9.99 for a 27 lb. bag. Dog food base price runs from $2.85/lb to $3.33/lb; Cat food base price runs $3.33/lb.
Yes, it’s pricey. However RedMoon Pet Food uses some nice ingredients. Petsumer Report reviews all of the RedMoon Pet Foods this month (March 2010); to see a review on RedMoon Cat Food click here.
Wishing you and your pet(s) the best,

Checked the review, so it looks pretty good. No probiotics but we can add them & no sodium selenite, which we can't extract. Pricey, but w/crap we pay more w/vet bills, so in the long run, better food is cheaper.
Dear KathCA,
As you get two free supplements with every purchase, it would be easy to add in the probiotics. We do not add then into the base because they would be destroyed in the cooking process. Adding them in during the customization process ensures they are intact and functional. Please note that the price includes shipping charges as well. Thanks for your comment.
It also appears like Mr. Baily is the "founder" of Waggers Pet Treats. Seems like he is a start up king in the pet food world! A money maker - I don't know that I trust his products. Quick to start a "home made" brand and then sell to the highest bidder.
