FDA acknowledges receipt of our Citizen Petition

Acknowledgment from FDA has been received regarding our Citizen Petition.  The FDA letter and follow up information.

The Citizen Petition had almost 500 names from concerned pet owners.  All it asked for - was for the FDA to enforce Federal Food Safety Laws (the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act) as written.  For those unaware, an FDA Compliance policy directs its representatives in the field to ignore certain sections of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act with pet food.  (To read the full story, Click Here)

A concerned pet owner (and Petition signer) put this Citizen Petition of ours in the perfect light..."A petition to ask an agency to enforce a law from their own books...how quaint...and absurd."

The FDA website provides the following on Citizen Petitions.  "Ultimately, FDA management decides whether to grant a petition. But first, agency staffers evaluate it, a process that may take several weeks to more than a year, depending on the issue's complexity. After FDA grants or denies the petition, the agency will notify the petitioner directly. If not satisfied, the petitioner can take the matter to court."  http://www.fda.gov/RegulatoryInformation/Dockets/Comments/default.htm

So...FDA management will decide if the Federal Agency will abide by the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.  I assure everyone, this matter will go to court if need be.

Let us hope the FDA will swiftly see there is no option but to enforce Federal law.  There is no grey area with this issue.  These pet food ingredients are wrong and illegal.

Wishing you and your pet(s) the best,

Susan Thixton
