Story from Rochester NY Media Cat death linked to Premium Edge Cat Food

It is a heartbreaking story; one that many of us can relate to.  However a comment from the pet food maker stated in this NY media report is very unsettling.

Her name was Lilly; she was only four years old.  She is one of the reported 13 cats in the Rochester, NY area that became ill from eating Premium Edge Cat Food; Lilly didn’t make it.

The food was pulled from store shelves (Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat and Premium Edge Hairball Cat foods with the following codes RAF0501A22X 18lb., RAF0501A2X 6 lb., RAH0501A22X 18 lb., RAH0501A2X 6lb) due to a vitamin B-1 deficiency.

A comment reported in the above linked article really bothers me.  ”The company says vitamin B-1 deficiency would only have been a problem if the food was fed by itself and not mixed with other cat food.”  Excuse me?  Was this instruction printed on the cat food label?  ‘Feed with another brand of cat food just in case we make a mistake’.  Are they suggesting it was the pet owners fault?  Unbelievable.

Wishing you and your pet(s) the best,

Susan Thixton

Nothing that these companies do or say surprises me any more.

Alphadog - I agree. Though, while it may not surprise me, it still makes me sick. Companies like this really need to be put out of business.

Is there a difference between killing our pets with pet food, or buying products from P&G, including Iams pet foods? P&G tests on animals, refuses to stop, and that includes dogs and cats by the way. I do my best to avoid anything P&G, and so should you.
I have been feeding my cats and dogs foods from Naturapet, have great faith in the company, and will continue to buy their foods.
My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to those people who's beloved pets died from eating poisoned food. It breaks my heart, and I thank God I feed what I do.
Regards,
Matt

The company is full of nitwits who care more about profit than they do about Pets. Not unlike many pet food companies.
