Guilty? Where can we turn from here?
Many things have occurred since I published the email I received from a Chinese pet treat manufacturer regarding a U.S. Pet Food/Treat company. Unfortunately, we (pet owners) have few places to turn for help.

Pet owners Left Confused regarding Nutro Pet Food Investigation
VinNews.com reports that Laura Alvey, deputy director of communications with the FDA stated Nutro Pet Food is not under investigation. The FDA has as well issued a public statement it is not investigating Nutro. However, Lisa McCormick of ConsumerAffairs.com states an anonymous source told her the FDA does have an ongoing investigation on Nutro Pet Food. What’s going on?

Gotta give credit when credit is due… Despite pressure from big industries, the FDA held firm on the ban of BSE (mad cow disease) risk materials from all animal feeds including pet food.

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has partnered with Hill’s Pet Nutrition (Science Diet) in creating a pet obesity public service announcement. While pet obesity is a topic definitely important and needed, should a national veterinary association partner with a pet food company to deliver the message?

The 2007 pet food recall disclosed not only the idea that lots of things get by us that shouldn't, but that we cannot rely on various agencies to do all of our thinking for us. There comes a time when we need to start relying on our own good common sense. We have to look straight into that glossy bag with all the juicy pictures and say to ourselves... "Does that look or smell even remotely like food?".
