Truth and Consequence

Nick part 3

Our office has a routine like most busy vet clinics; in our case, we do surgeries first thing in the morning and under normal circumstances, see appointments in the afternoon. This morning, after neutering 22 cats for a local rescue, I sat down to have lunch with my staff. That’s when I noticed Nick was unusually active – and it wasn’t in play.

But it was strange. He would run frantically, from one end of the dining room to the other, slam himself into a sitting position holding his head and tail down.

Then he’d lick, lick, lick his chest and launch himself into his spastic run for another several frantic minutes. Poor guy.

Could this behavior be as simple as this dog has pain?  One of our Techs, Lisa, and I adjusted Nick. He did have several sore points and we’re still head scratching.

We have had success in shedding a few pounds off of Nick. He’s lost a half pound—which is equivalent to a human losing 12 pounds over several days. Our cleaning ladies take full responsibility for his rapid weight loss as he chases their mops across the floor each day. He also hasn’t coughed while rough housing with the broom, mop, cats or dogs either. Hmmm.

Stay tuned…

I have a dog with mitral valve degeneration, and she has some strange behaviours, jumping up, running over to a new spot, and also freezing.  Sometimes there is a tail tuck.

I tend to think, though am not sure, it might from the heart, similar to symptoms that humans get from mitral valve prolapse - the websites say that they get chest pain, anxiety attacks, and other unexplainable symptoms.

She does get regular chiro care, which I believe helps her quite a bit.
