Good afternoon!  I just saw this recall and the one that was released yesterday on Petrus Feed...I am wondering why these recalls are dated back to the second week in December?  I carefully follow the recalls and never saw this one or the petrus Feed one listed and I'm just wondering if I missed it or if they just put it in print but knew about it all along.  Have any ideas?  Thanks and have a very happy New Year!

I have sent the FDA that question.  I just today received the notice from the FDA feed I subscribe to on this recall - and the actual release was dated 15 days prior!  There is no excuse as far as I'm concerned.  But, if they reply and explain - I will share with everyone.

The Petrus brand recall is larger than the FDA has told us. And one of the recall notices that appeared on the FDA's site yesterday has since disappeared.

Petrus informed me that there is a third (yet unpublished by the FDA) lot of the dog food that is contaminated with aflatoxin.

After the confusion with lot numbers, a recall notice correcting a non-existant recall notice, and a recall notice that completely vanished from the FDA website hours after it was published yesterday, I called Petrus.

I was surprised to learn from Petrus of a third, yet unannounced, recall for another lot of Petrus Brand 21% Protein Dog Food in 40 lb bags also manufactured between December 1, 2010 through December 1, 2011 lot numbers 4K0335 - 4K0365 are contaminated with aflatoxin.

To clarify, lot numbers LL1001 – LL1335 are still a valid part of the recall, according to Petrus (even though the recall notice the FDA posted regarding this lot mysteriously disappeared yesterday from the FDA website).

The recall notice the FDA updated from an unpublished recall notice for Petrus Brand 21% Protein Dog Food affecting lot numbers 4K1011 – 4K1307 was expanded and updated to 4K1011 – 4K1335.

Confused? Don't worry, we have the FDA to keep it all straight. Afterall, that's their job, right? Isn't it? Oh, Hell.
