My cat is on Science Diet (Prescription) c/d and is has gotten expensive. I liked the video but want more info on foods. I would like to know what other cat foods would do the same job as Science Diet. Can you help me? Thank you.
I'm not a vet, but after my cat had to have surgical removal of bladder stones, I did even more research on foods. I'd already been using Acana and Orijen. I also think the ingredients in the Science Diet brand (even Prescription) are awful so that was never a consideration. Long story short: Wellness Core has a formula that is perfect for urinary issues. However, I have decided to put cats on Orijen and/or Acana, which are the best, in my opinion. I keep cleanest/freshest water available in 2 areas of the house also. Not sure about price, but you get what you pay for. Hope that helps.
Hello Elizabeth....does this vet (Dr. Susan Thixton) have an area on this web page where she tells what cats food for crystals she does recommend? (my first time here) Also, do they sell the two you mentioned or do they have to be orderd? And, last, do you think an all dry or all canned or a mixture of the two is helpful for a cat with crystals? Thankyou, Sherry
it's my belief that most of the vet "recommended' foods are inferior, especially in quality. look at ingredients in those, and then look at Wellness brand....NO GRAIN, etc. I also believe it's not ethical for vets OR doctors to 'prescribe' a product that they sell, exclusively. Try canned Wellness, and see how your cat looks, feels, and acts after two weeks; and make sure there's plenty of water, AND that you change over to Wellness canned SLOWLY, like aubstitute a spoonful of wellness for what you use now, for a few meals, then two spoonsful, etc. Learn to read and investigate the labels of what you are feeding.
