The FDA Responds

Though it's not much.  Here is what the FDA said regarding their recent solicitation of an independent lab to test for basic nutritional content in jerky treats.  Did we strike a FDA nerve?

Disagreeing with an Expert

Dr. Lisa Freeman is considered expert in pet nutrition.  She is a veterinarian and a Ph.D. in nutrition science.  Even with all of her training, reading what Dr. Freeman was lecturing pet owners on of late left me wondering when the last time Dr. Freeman got out of the lab and looked around at the real pet food world.

Pet Food Lawsuit Brings Questions

A new lawsuit filed by National Feeds against United Pet Foods brings some questions.  This suit claims United Pet Foods made "rancid dog feed and mink feed."  National Feeds is suing United Pet Food for damages, however no recall was ever issued to protect pet owners.

Hats Off Award

A new award from TruthaboutPetFood.com recognizes the efforts of Pet Food towards achieving transparency of the industry.  The very first Hats Off Award goes to Halo Pet Food.

Response to FDA Pet Food Video

Remember the FDA video I told you was previewed at the January AAFCO meeting?  Well, here it is and my response to the FDA video.

Are These Purina Pet Foods in Violation of Labeling Laws?

Labeling of pet foods must following a slew of regulations.  Everything from font size of the name of the pet food to particulars of how the product is named.  One regulation in particular could be being ignored by some Purina Pet Foods.

Guaranteed Analysis?

Pet food regulations require that all pet foods provide the petsumer with 'guaranteed analysis' information on the label.  Four bits of information on the pet food must be provided; protein, fat, fiber, and moisture.  Is the Guaranteed Analysis beneficial to the petsumer?  Or is it misleading?
