Happy New Year and Thank You

I am very hopeful that 2012 will be a very good year for our efforts to improve the safety, quality and transparency of pet food.  But before we start a new year, I'd like to thank all of you for 2011.

Perfect Christmas Gifts for Pet Parents

Do you have a pet owner you wish to give the perfect gift to this holiday?  Here are my suggestions (very partial suggestions)...

This Could Change Everything

Though this is just a beginning, the door has finally been opened.  The Texas Court of Appeals has determined that Pet Owners can sue for "special value" - such as sentimental value - with the loss of a pet.  This is huge.

Thank You to Veterans

Thank you to all Veterans!  Your service is Greatly appreciated.  Here are a couple of videos paying tribute to War Dog Veterans.  We thank you too!

The Chesterfield 22

This has nothing to do with pet food and this isn't a nice story but it does have a good ending.  But not a good ending for The Chesterfield 22.  The Chesterfield 22 are/were 22 dogs that were shot to death in Chesterfield County, SC taken from the sheriff run shelter across the street to a landfill and killed.  As sickening as this story is, there needs to be attention made of the brave people who reported this and the follow up rescues that occurred.

If You are Good with a Camera

A professional photographer helps shelter pets find homes.  She does this with pictures!

Cats that Glow in the Dark

No kidding.  Researchers have genetically engineered cats to "carry a protein that defends them from infection by the feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV).  The cats glow because a jellyfish gene was inserted as well as the FIV-resistant gene.

FDA Warns of Possible Danger with Animal Vaccine Device

The Food and Drug Administration is warning veterinarians and pet owners, particularly cat owners, of the possible risk of fractures with the Vet Jet™ transdermal vaccination system device. The device, made by Bioject, Inc., is sold exclusively as the delivery system for the Merial product, PUREVAX® Recombinant Feline Leukemia Vaccine. The device delivers the leukemia vaccine through the skin to cats.

Frontline Diversion Bites Some Veterinarians

An interesting twist.  It seems many US veterinarians are diverting flea and tick products (sold only to veterinarians) to 'other retailers'.  But the twist is that many of these vets have been bit by their own resale game; they aren't getting paid.  What are your thoughts?  Is product diversion ethical?
